Scope of the Institute
The creation of appropriate artifacts begins with the appropriate people - this is the view of the Institute of Technologists.
- Technologists are equipped in both theory and practice.
The aim of Institute of Technologists is to turn out technologists who are both skillful and savvy. Through their education and training at the Institute, technologists are to be provided with both the theoretical knowledge necessary for making artifacts and with the skills and techniques to apply such knowledge. They are to be capable of infusing project management not only with the theoretical results of scientific and scholarly research but also the experience gained through the practice of production. They are to become entrepreneurs who are armed with skills and technological know-how. - The Institute of Technologists allows its students to gain highly realistic experiences.
Seventy percent of the curriculum of the Institute of Technologists consists of laboratories, shops, and studios, each equipped with the kinds of machines and instruments used at real production sites. Hands-on experience, together with the theories and knowledge gained in lecture courses, promotes a mastery of skills and techniques. The curriculum encourages healthy competition and cooperation among peers, which support the learning of new skills and technologies. - The Institute of Technologists collaborates with industries.
One aspect of collaboration is evident in the teaching staff and visiting professors of the Institute, who are top researchers and practitioners drawn from various industries. Students can engage in six-to-nine-month internships at collaborating businesses. These provide students with an opportunity to gain both practical experience in industry and an informed basis for decisions about their future. - The Institute of Technologists enjoys great support from industry.
The innovative mission of the Institute of Technologists -- to train and to educate those who are to contribute to the foundation of future production in Japan -- has met with enthusiastic support and collaboration from various industries and their leaders, including Mr. Shoichiro Toyota, the Honorary Chairman Member of the board of Toyota Motor Corporation.
