Entrance Examination for international Students (Outline)

Undergraduate Admission

Application Requirements

Applicants who are not Japanese citizens and who meet any of the following (1) through (6) and all of (7) through (8). If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact the university’s admissions office before applying.

  1. Those who have completed 12 years of school education in a foreign country (including those who are expected to complete the course by March 31, 2025) and have a university entrance qualification from that foreign country.
  2. If the period of school education is less than 12 years, those who have also completed a preparatory course or a course at a training institute designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. (Including those who are expected to complete the course by March 31, 2025).
    *If the applicant has graduated from a school in mainland China.
    The university does not include secondary vocational schools, vocational secondary schools, technical schools, adult secondary schools, adult secondary vocational schools and secondary self-study examinations in the 12-year course.
  3. Those who have passed an academic achievement test equivalent to completion of a 12-year course in a foreign country.
  4. Persons who have completed a course of study at a school equivalent to a senior high school in a foreign country that meets the requirements, such as being deemed to have completed a course of study of 11 years or more, as determined by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
  5. Persons holding an International Baccalaureate Diploma awarded by the International Baccalaureate Office, a foundation under the Swiss Civil Code.
  6. Holders of an Abitur qualification recognized as a university entrance qualification in the Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany.
  7. Holders of a baccalaureate recognized as a university entrance qualification in the French Republic.
  8. Those who entered Japan for the purpose of pursuing higher education and have a residence status that does not prevent admission to higher education under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
  9. Those who have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N1 or N2) administered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services Foundation (JEESF), scored approximately 200 points (excluding writing) on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), scored at least level C or above on the J. TEST Practical Japanese Proficiency Test administered by the Association for Testing Japanese Language (ATS), or level 2 or above in the ‘Japanese NAT-TEST’ administered by the Publishers of Professional Education.

Graduate Admission

Application Requirement

A person who satisfies any one of the below conditions of (1)-(6), and has permission to apply to IOT resulting from the Prior Consultation.

  1. A person who graduated from a university in accordance with Article 52 of the School Education Law, or is expected to graduate by March of 2021.
  2. A person who was awarded a bachelor’s degree, or expected to be awarded by March of 2021, as regulated by Article 68.2.3 of the School Education Law (National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation).
  3. A person who finished a sixteen-year curriculum in a school of a foreign country, or is expected to finish by March of 2021.
  4. A person in Japan who finished a sixteen-year curriculum of distance learning in a foreign country, or is expected to finish by March of 2021.
  5. A person designated by a Minster from MEXT (under the Public Notice of the Ministry of Education, No. 5 in 1953).
  6. A person recognized for IOT’s Graduate School acquired excellent grades for prescribed credits; either enrolled at a university for over three years, or completed a fifteen-year curriculum in a school of a foreign country.
